What is MONW?

  • We are a non-profit organization based in Detroit, Michigan, that works to reclaim vacant lots in the city and transforms them through community gardening.

What is our Mission?

  • Our mission is to promote safety, beautify urban neighborhoods and eliminate blight by creating green space, planting community gardens, and providing housing rehabilitation activities.

How were we Founded?

  • We were filed as a nonprofit organization on March 16th, 1994, by our Founder, Edith Floyd.

Is there any inspiration behind our name?

  • Since the Mt. Olivet Neighborhood was where Edith first started her work, it is now reflected in our organization name.

WHAT WE DO

What types of projects do you do?

  • We are mainly gardening focused, and we do a ton of garden work in countless lots and parks across the neighborhoods of Detroit. We also do greenhouse gardening to help with food insecurity, community gathering activities, and housing rehabiltation activities.

Where are you located?

  • Our official address is at 8087 MT OLIVET ST, DETROIT, MI, 48234. However, we do projects over plenty of neighborhoods in Detroit. Aspiring volunteers can fill out the interest form to receive more information.

What are some examples of past projects you have worked on?

  • Growing Joy Community Garden, Fletcher Park Rainwater Garden, Hoop Greenhouse, Mix 'n Match Meadows, Food Donations, and more.

What types of support are you seeking?

  • We truly appreciate all of our volunteers and sponsors! Currently, we are looking for more gardening volunteers, ad designers, outreachers, and any interested sponsors or partners.
